Finding the right Abacus teacher can be quite a mammoth task. As a parent you strive to find the best teacher for your child. However, it’s important to truly understand what ‘best’ means in this context. As an example, some parents would like to find the tutor within walking distance of their place so that the benefits of physical classes can be availed. While this is understandable, we must also appreciate the fact that today distance is not a barrier at all and we must not make any compromise in the key criteria while selecting the best Abacus teacher.
Given my experience when I did the same exercise for my son few years ago, let me share some of the parameters that you must evaluate and tick off in making this decision.
Google Reviews from parents
You must make an effort to evaluate the feedback from current and past parents. because Google Reviews are permanent and unaffected by outside factors, they are the most trustworthy source of feedback data that can be found online today.
As long as they have received good feedback from parents, all coaching academies are happy to publish data on their websites for the general public to access.
Prefer Experience over Qualification
As a trainer gains experience, their style of teaching varies greatly. A trainer will have a stronger bond with the children the more experience they have.
Small Batch Size
The “Abacus” course requires exacting attention to detail. Large batch sizes (more than 6) are therefore categorically discouraged. A session or class with six or fewer students lasts 60 minutes on average, and the teacher can spend at least 10 minutes providing one-on-one attention to each student.
Confidence level of Trainer
You must arrange a 20–30 minute counselling session with the trainer before enrolling. You should question him about the course’s benefits, whether it will interfere with the child’s schoolwork, what to do if the child doesn’t understand the concept, whether he feels pressured, and other things during this time.
Based on his responses to your questions, as a parent, you should be able to fairly judge the trainer’s confidence level during that conversation. A confident trainer can connect your questions to his past experience and give you real examples, unlike someone who might only have theoretical knowledge and lack confidence.
Ability to connect with the child
It takes at least six months to see noticeable benefits from Abacus because learning numbers and arithmetic computations with it is similar to learning a new language. Thus, it’s critical that the instructor be able to keep the student interested by engaging with them on a regular basis.
Abacus Training – Secret Tips
As long as the teacher can interact with the students and build a rapport, abacus learning is an enjoyable experience that the students enjoy. Every topic requires frequent practice, such as ‘small friends’ and ‘big friends’, and children frequently become disinterested if their parents and teachers do not work closely with them.
A child’s interest can be piqued by simple games such as father-son competitions, in which the father solves the same math problem using traditional methods while the child uses an abacus. The child will undoubtedly solve the problems much more quickly and win this competition if he has had enough practice.
Another excellent method to make sure the child enjoys every class is to introduce puzzles during the lesson (for example, a 5-minute puzzle in an hour-long class). You can be sure that Abacus Training will provide you with the best outcomes if he finds the class enjoyable.
