Most Fifties in IPL History

The IPL 2022 is reportedly scheduled to get underway on March 27 but the eagerly-awaited IPL auction 2022 will be held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. The 15th edition of the IPL will be a 10-team affair with the addition of two new franchises- Lucknow and Ahmedabad.

There have been batters not just from India but across the globe who have performed consistently on the 22 yards each year and while many of them might have scored a few centuries and a few are yet to breach the three-figure mark but, have made impactful fifties. Without further a do, here’s a look at the batters with most half-centuries in IPL history.

Batters to have scored most number of IPL half-centuries

David Warner: David Warner proudly holds the record of having registered the most number of IPL fifties. He has scored 50 of them and in fact, became the first and only player to date to score 50 half-centuries in the history of the marquee tournament. The Aussie opener has amassed 5449 runs from 150 matches including four centuries averaging 41.59 and a strike rate of 139.96. After being released by Sunrisers Hyderabad, it would be interesting to see who buys him in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction.

Shikhar Dhawan: Shikhar Dhawan has been the most consistent batter for the Delhi batters in the last couple of seasons as a result of which he has the second-most number of IPL half-centuries. Dhawan has 44 fifties from 192 games including two hundreds, averaging 34.84 at a strike rate of 126.64. He has scored 5784 runs. The southpaw will be under the hammer in the IPL 2022 mega auction after being released by the IPL 2020 finalists.

Virat Kohli: Apart from having numerous records to his name in international cricket, Virat Kohli has also been one of the most accomplished players in the IPL as well as the batting megastar has succeeded in registering 42 half-centuries from 207 outings averaging, 37.39 and a strike rate of 129.94 as he has 6283 runs to his tally. Kohli has been retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2022. However, he will not be leading the side anymore.

Rohit Sharma: Apart from being the most successful captain in IPL history having led the Mumbai Indians to a record five IPL titles, Rohit Sharma has also proved his mettle as a batter as he has 40 half-centuries from 213 appearances. The ‘Hitman’ has scored 5611 runs averaging 31.17 and a strike rate of 130.39. Rohit will once again be leading MI in IPL 2022.

AB de Villiers: ‘Mr.360’ with his versatile batting abilities has scored 40 fifties from 184 matches including three centuries averaging 39.70 and a strike rate of 151.68. He has scored 5162 runs. ABD has announced his retirement from all forms of the game but, RCB might reportedly rope him as their mentor.
