Our focus has to be on nurturing healthy habits that contribute to good health. Work has to stay at the office. The third healthy decision deals with the amount of time we spend on social media. It was reported that adults spend an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes per day on social networking and messaging platforms. So, if we spend 8 hours on sleep, we are left with 16 hours. Then, we spend 8 hours on work plus 1 hour on the commute. This leaves us with just 5 hours we can spend on ourselves. If we spend more then 2 hours on social media, we are left with almost 3 hours we can spend on activity which is not sleeping or working. How many times have you said that you don’t have time to do something? We do have time for everything, but we choose to scroll mindlessly through social media for 2 hours and 22 minutes.
Start by limiting yourself to just 30 minutes on social media. If you do this, you’ll finally have time to read a book, learn a new language or do something creative.

Also, we should make time for these things but not for the sake of our health. We should learn more about the concept of JOMO. In other words, we should embrace the joy of missing out. There is genuine joy when we decide to spend an afternoon reading a good book instead of going shopping with our friends. Social media is the main reason for FOMO, so while you’re enjoying some well-deserved me-time, ditch the social media. Finding joy in things that support your mental health will help you say yes to things that are important and ditch all other.
